Leanan Sidhe Elven Vampiress

(Lan-awhn-shee) Original image rendered in pencil on 8" x 11" white, 20# paper, then pen & inked, and completed in colored pencil & acrylic paint. Work is tacked to a light posterboard cardstock sheet as a mat. In most legends and lore of elves and fairies, the Leanan Sidhe is an extrememly dangerous elven being which exhibits the behaviors and traits of the predatory Vampire. Although there is only One Leanan Sidhe, there is a similar creature in Hebrew legend called the Estrie. The Solitary (for there is only 1) Leanan Sidhe is said to live under the Irish Sea off the eastern coast of Ireland. Even though, her land of origin is The Isle of Man. She is said to give inspiratiions to poets, yet the fee for her "gifts" is either, death, or, at best, infinite captivity in her underwater kingdom. Even in Edain McCoy's book, A Witch's Guide to Faery Folk, she presents the origin & personality of the Leanan Sidhe adding the contact caveat: Spiritual Contact.....NOT ADVISED!! Artist name and dates on all works. Single original work (No prints).
