Mecca Painted Canyon, Salton Sea area of southern Ca. This is the start of the hike. Notice the original wood ladder behind the metal ladder, which wasn't a whole bunch better.

Intriguing photo!

Artist Reply: This was one of two ladders to go up to get to the plateau, in Mecca, California. Way out in the desert. I think it's called The Painted Desert. That ladder was a replacement for the wood ladder you can see behind it. Nice easy hike.
