Smooth Sailing

Monet's glorious waterlily pond at twilight. Some of the blossoms have already closed for the evening while others "sail" together before day's end.

I have tried doing reflex ion on water & it’s not easy at all, looking at your work it is really inspiring me to give yet another try.

Wonderfully composed and great palette! The last time I painted water lilies, I found the water to be the same lavender hue that you have chosen! Great job!

Artist Reply: Hi Julie, Thank you as always for your comments...and to my other colleagues here! The secret to painting the lilies is not what's on top. That is what we can see and render - what draws us to them. Yet, under each lily pad, blossom and bud are a number of hidden treasures. Self shadows, tiny short reflections, light melding pads to water, droplets of water that cling to the edge of a leaf or flower...it goes on. Whether painting loosely or tight, the same concepts apply. Great to read that you have observed and painted the same colors...an amazing time to capture this or any pond!
