50 MANGA BABES

May I introduce, my secret favourite babe: The grandma! XD
When I was asked to draw a grandmother, this was quite a challenge for me, because I more often draw old men than women (don't ask why *lol*). Besides, I just didn't want to do a mere realistic old lady with manga eyes. I rather had a funny, cute granny in mind like they sometimes show up in comedy anime and manga and which are caricatured in this typical japanese way.
I searched for such images in the web, but it was really hard to find something as one can imagine. Therefore I had to mainly achieve this according to my gut instinct and with the aid of my memories. The grandma is meant to radiate kindness and cheerfulness and to evoke the traditional Japan (when drawing the kimono, my hand almost fell off x_x). I'm really happy with her.^.^

"50 MANGA BABES to draw and paint" is an English How-to-draw book displaying fifty artworks of different women in manga style together with step-by-step illustrations, detailed descriptions and drawing tips.

I had the wonderful commission to draw fifteen of this "babes" (see the right column). I had to comply with this criteria: drawn in manga style, female chara, view of the whole body, related to a topic/character type, no background.

This book is great and I can recommend it to all learning to draw in manga style. It's available at Amazon.

DRAWING MEDIA:
Outlines: black ballpoint-pen
Medium: coloured pencils (Polychromos, Faber Castell)
Paper: mat coated paper (verso); A3 (29,7 x 42 cm)
Time: 11 h
