Acrylics on paper (14x14ins). The annual yawl races take place around Achill island in Co. Mayo at the end of August. here, the boats are pictured with the southern shoreline in the background, including the unmistakeable conical shape of Croagh Patrick. I wanted to get the hazy sunlight of late summer in this painting so the background has been given a wash of dilute yellow ochre which I rubbed in with a soft cloth.

Jacki, your work is just fantastic! I've added you to my Artwatch so I can keep up with your new paintings. I'm so amazed what you can do with acrylics! I tried them once but I couldn't manipulate them as well so I went back to oils. (I'm taking note of that yellow ochre wash, may just use it. Hope you don't mind, you know they say imitation is the best form of flattery.Julia Scorupsky 06 Oct 2008
