Inner Dimension

The title of this painting is Inner Dimension. It is an oil painting on canvas, 24"X24". Originally, I created a collage and used the collage in order to make this painting. It is an original work. It really has to do with one's inner world. The windows are all painted colors which represent the filters through which we view the world. There are many windows, just as in life we have choices regarding how we view things. Our view of the world is also filtered through our cultural backgrounds, and the value system which we have adopted whether consciously or unconsciously. The conscious person knows that he or she has a choice. The unconscious person behaves by rote. Within each of us we also have the possibility to move upward to a higher dimension. It is the realm of objective reality. It is a refuge for the weary. The structure of the geometric objects in the painting cause the viewer's eyes to move in a circular direction. The spiral staircase that brings one to another dimension catches the viewer's eye just by the brightness of the color. There is a circular movement and then there is an upward movement. This surrealist work offers the viewer a place of peace. When one views this space, one is drawn into it and wants to inhabit it. There is something very comforting about the colors and tones, geometry, light and shadows of this painting.
