PEIXEIRAS (W.I.P.)

© 2008 Armando Salas.- Today I finished pages 49 and 50 for my series FLIP. This way I am in advance (+6 months) and I already drew sunday strips for 8 months! :-) This means, I only have to draw two different editorial daily strips and finally can manage my time to paint. This one is the definitive sketch for "Peixeiras" (In Galician language: women that sell seafood) ("Peixe"= fish). I'll paint it by using colored pencils and this work is based/inspired by few ACEO paintings I made. --- Pencil sketch on paper 59 X 42 cm.------------------ Bottom image: ACEO cards I started when Olga Van Dijk started her own "Big Bang" :-)))) Only the middle one is totally finished.

Great composition, Armando! And a well-deserved tribute to these brave women - as peixeiras!... (just we say at north Portugal/ Oporto; the same word you use at Galicia!!!). Teresa Ramalhão,a new AW member / from Oporto city...)

Artist Reply: Glad to meet you, Teresa (by the way my mother's name). You know, Portuguese and Galician language share a lot of words and really we can understand each other by talking our respective languages. We are irmãos :-)---I only was in Portugal once. I visited Lisboa and few villages like Trafaría and Costa de Caparica, the place where we were in vacation two weeks. Memories! I so much enjoyed sorvetes de três bolas :-)))--- I didn't practise my Portuguese more, I mean, I used to read/learn Portuguese by reading "Jornal do Cuto" (banda desenhada).--- About peixeiras, I remember to see them every day in my childhood and as I can see lately, almost no differences between Galician and Portuguese peixeiras: only the basket is totally different (and the language, of course:-)---Thank you for your visit and kind comment.

Artist Reply: Thank you, Olga. How is your leg? Still the red shoe?:-))) LOL (I'm a hateful person). Is Fred ready to win our champion Nadal? :-))) --------- I'm not guilty about the Top Ten. Perhaps Bert Cortés...:-))) Thank you for your effusive comment (Olga's Big Bang, indeed..:-)
