JAIL JAMMIES

SHADOW BOX ZEBRA'S - AFRICA - NAMIBIA - ETOSHA PAN------------------------------This image was taken in northern Namibia on the southern edge of the Kalahari Desert. The area is known as the Great Etosha Pan, a great dry lakebed covering several hundred square miles. Once a huge lake it is now a dry arid lakebed. In the dry season when this image was taken and there is no rain, water accumulates only in small ponds. All the species in nature reach some communal truce so they may come together and drink. It is almost like watching the boarding of Noahs Ark. Each species stakes out a small area around the ponds. It is possible to get shots with numerous species all in one frame. Animals that would normally in other areas of Africa never come into such close contact without conflict. Elephants, Zebras, Lions and all the species of Antelope, it is quite the menagerie to witness. We traveled along flat arid dry roads from one water hole to the next with never a dull moment, passing birds of prey perched in stark barren trees framed by an endless horizon and dark blue sky. The white reflection of the lakebed landscape was just blinding.
