Benecia California

(c)2008 The city across the Carquinez Straits,...Benecia. Once the capitol of California until the impact of the gold rush in the foothills, or the gold country, spurred a change of location closer to the action and Sacramento, California was chosen to be the states capitol. The location of the cities of Benecia and Martinez opposite each other in a narrow spot in the straits where travellers going north and south could cross the great river system by a ferry boat operation which lasted even up into the early 1960's because I have a photo of our family waiting outside our car at the end of the peer for the ferryboat to arrive. And in the background is the George Miller bridge (the original) under construction. Benecia is still a thriving small city with a beautiful, active downtown and extensive waterfront access points. Between the two cities is a lot of waterfront fun. Use the Google satelite images of the two cities to check it out for yourself. Bye for now,...have a great week,..!!!! :O)
