Broken heart

(c)2008 Armando Salas ---- New image for my series about love. I realize all my pics until now are dark and sad. Love and hate are the most powerful feelings and I enjoy so much to create "intense" images. I think an artist must be able to provoke emotions through beauty ... but through pain as well. Meanwhile, Madeleine Weber is working on her own series, same subject, but her pics are full of joy, like a song to life. I'm not the bad guy in this movie :-))) ... Just to say I'll create joyful images and funny cartoons about love as well :-) To be continued...

This is a very emotional work and although you do the dark you have added the beauty of the woman and the rose, both of which add so much light to the image. Do what you feel comfortable with and not try to emulate others. Who is to say they are right and you are wrong. Art is in the eye of the beholder.

Artist Reply: Thank you for the wonderful comment, Donald. I was a bit surprised while working on the face/body. Usually, I only play with brightness, contrast... This time I used "Efectos de iluminación" (sorry, my Photoshop is in Spanish). It's an option about lighting. I tried all possibilities and finally chose this one; it made the face shines due to a candle while the neck and body are in penumbra. I think this circumstance adds "volume". By the way, I agree with you: art is in the eye of the beholder. I think Art is a language to tell stories, to show beauty and emotions as well. Due to my experience -Gemeral Franco's dictatorship- my art is a statement often.

You are not the bad gyu, you are the man! innocence is gone? Or the desire is killing you. It works in both ways ... M*

A breathtakingly gorgeous work Armando/ This has such an Old Masters feel to it. I agree that artists must be able to provoke emotions but they do it by their skill at illustrating emotions and you've done that here magnificently.

You have a wonderful way with digital compositions...fantastic and moving!!

Olga van Dijk 17 Apr 2008

I disagree: this is not a romantic but a dark composition. "It takes a minute to like someone, an hour to love someone, but to forget someone can take a life time." All of us have had a broken heart. Dealing with the pain and heart break is never easy. But even hearts shattered into a million pieces will heal; there will be somebody out there putting back the pieces of your broken heart. -- Love and Light ~OLGA
