Lago Grey in Late Afternoon

Almost two years ago I was in Chile and having the time of my life hiking and photographing. This late afternoon view from Lago Grey in Parque Nacional Torres del Paine made me reach camp fifteen minutes later than I had hoped. As it was I arrived after dark, but getting the photo was worth it. I had a flashlight with me and the battery lasted that night. The next night the battery was dead.

Artist Reply: Thanks, Betty. The trees and the light kept dragging me from the path. I tried to tell myself to wait for the right moment before I let myself get distracted. After I got this shot I found a totally amazing landscape scene of blue ice floes on a grey lake with fading orange in the sky. Had I not taken this photo I might have reached the other spot in time for the best light. Well, you can't get them all. And I am pleased with this one.
