Winter Story

I woke up this morning by the whistling wind...very early actually, to a REAL Winter day considered Israel, ...In my area 13 degrees celsius, VERY WINDY...Stormy and Rainy.(other parts of Israel SNowy as well ) I was not sure if to send my kids to school at such weather...but then I remember ALL those who live in far away places, where it is surely SO MUCH MORE cold, and realized that...Perhaps it's better that they'll go... It seems, I was not the only one, who was not sure if to send to school or not :-) Because most Israeli's are made of "SUGAR "...They melt in rain :-)) !!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Photos taken in Jo Alon's Center, Negev, South of Israel. At the museum of bedouin's Clture. Hand Weaved rugs, that was done by bedouin women. Surely these women work so hard, in a very primitive way to achieve this BEAUTY of folklorist weaves. They work so hard to support their family and bring the bread home. Sometimes in difficult weather climate, in their temporary homes. Copyrights (c) Nira Dabush & Bedouins women

BEAUTIFUL Hand woven works of Art!!!You have captured them Brilliantly with Your camera,my Dear Friend!!!I'm sure that it takes many hours to make such Beautiful woven art!!!Thanks for the History of the Bedioun women and their artistry...Thank You for sharing some of Your Special Winter's Day with Your Family!!!Hope You and Your Beautiful family stay nice and warm!!!With Love&prayers,Dee&David HugsXXXXXXX:):)

Artist Reply: I truly don't know how much time it takes them...The thickness of wool's threads is important factor...I mean the more thick the thread..the faster it will take...To my estimation it can take weeks to make one, yet it's only thickness..not sure about it...maybe less. And of course it depends on the size of the rug and the design. Hope that it's not too cold for you there in Canada, my dearest DEE...Hugs xxxxx :-) nira

Nice story. I bet your kids welcomed your decision to send them to school anyway. Weave patterns remind me of the rugs/blanket of own Native Americans, particularly in the southwest US. I've always been amazed (and maybe you can answer this as a textile designer Nira), when someone weaves rugs/blanket do they already have the pattern in their mind or design it as they go.

Artist Reply: No doubt my kids love to stay at home ,then school , Steven... :-) But in the afternoon, when i suggested to not go to their other activities, since there was no electricity for hours in my area - dark & very rainy ..My son Saar didn't agree to give up his Guitar lesson , though my son Yarin surely would prefer to skip his " FLORAL RIPUY " Activity :-)... And of course, we had to go to parents day with Saar also today , especially in such Winter weather...About your question..it is similar to a painting, you can do a sketch first and then to paint..or you can paint immediately, what I usually prefer to do myself.I'm not sure about these ladies, because I truly didn;t see how they work. BUT, As I can remember, about 22 years ago I finished with my personal weaving as a student...We weaved at a better loom, but also quite simple loom . We used to make what we call here : MAPOT MENIRA , It is like making maps of the pattern. Also we learn technology of weaving, and so there's a technological way how to weave your pattern. But then we really worked from those maps. Perhaps one day i'll take photos of my weaving, those I made 22 years ago...( Not so soon though )THANK YOU, All the very best to you and yours...Nira

LOL, loved the text!!! yes, we mothers are like that... beautiful work showed here, love the design and the colours!

Artist Reply: Well, Nellynka..some mothers are like this, not all..and not sure that it is good to be like this, after all we are not made of sugar although it is an expression here...I was LOL myself too this morning ,when I took Yarin few meters from the car to school and his umbrella turned over..and he was so surprised and didn't know what to do..I took the umbrella from him and said to him run laughing almost..because I myself had to take the bags and 2 umbrellas and his bag is really heavy...Well..it's even more Winter now, and still I have 3 activities of the kids outside this afternoon/ evening. Have yourself a splendid afternoon,NIRA
