Second Generation Greek Village Women

While waiting for the mailman to come to the village of Agia Gala, I took photos of most of the village women. These women, all in their 50's are the daughters of the Old Women in Black. They live simple, but hard lives in this remote village of Chios, Greece. A total of 34 permanent residents live in the village all year round. Once a month, the mail man brings them their pension checks, and at the same time, takes their money to pay their light and water bills. An average pension amounts to between 300Euros - 600Euros a month. No internet in this village!

Your pictures are so beautiful Janet.... you show the beauty and charcters of these persons, their life is carved on their faces, NO cosmetic surgery for these women, but just gracefully aging, like we all should do! A great picture and tribute to these hardworking women! --Love &Light~OLGA

All great characters ! I live in the mountains too but we get our mail more regularly than that, thank goodness ! Nice work !

Artist Reply: Dear Susan, Thank you for your kind comment about my Greek Village women. Actually, the mail probably comes more often than just once a month, but the pension check only comes once a month! Still, that village was a glimps of the past.
