African Crested Crane

I have boxes of photographs that i took over the years and decided to look for some photos when I was very young and traveled to Africa in the Summer of 1975. Although we often associate the magestic wildlife on safaris, there are many species of magnificent and regal birds like the African Crested Crane who in this photograph looks like she is performing in an elegant ballet. At that time my friend taught me how to use my Pentax camera that is an antique now and after scanning some photographs and having the digital tools to make corrections and crop photographs, I was surprised at how well they came out after all these years. These colorful birds are the national bird of Uganda;its colors- black, yellow and red are reflected in the the three colors of the Uganda flag. They are also seen in other parts of Africa, particularily Kenya where I took many photographs without any awareness that I would be able to share them decades later. I am in the process of choosing those photographs that I am able to use instead of watching them fade over the many years they have been stored among many photos and videos that chronicled my travels. Although I have not traveled extensively out of the United States, Africa is a great trip for people who are young or in great physical shape. My love of animals and watching them live in harmony in their natural habitat was a life altering and unforgettable experience. Some of the photographs may lack technical skill, but the beauty of the subject makes up for my lack of photographic expertise. I hope you enjoy this elegant bird.
