This specific piece addressed a social deterring subject and our direct responsibility to not just try to fix after-affected childrens lives through medical, social, psychological rehabilitation programs, but also laboring to prevent this through awareness groups, conscience networking and religious School programs... This painting was built and spraypainted when I was just 19 years old on three 8ft tall wooden primered panels. The first panel displays parents arguing by ambered, semi-hypnotic, TV flickering light in the living room... The second panel shows a little boy battered by careless cruel comments, damaging mishandlings, dad & mom's selfish mannerisms and mental unrest... a domestic environment of chaos. his face was painted over a raised canvas I glued to the panel as a way of intensifying his emotions. The third panel shows his social wall and self esteem crumbling. It was first displayed in The Olvera St. Los Angeles Pico House Museum in 1989... The artwork after being viewed, critiqued and reviewed by all the major city newspapers (LA Times, Downtown Register, Full front page of The Herald Examiner)... and visitors from the Bay Area to San Diego, these paintings then traveled North to The San Francisco Mexican Heritage Museum and finally to the diligent watchful display and supervision of Eriberto & Angelica Gonzalez from United Latinos for The Arts in Los Angeles (ULALA) Several thousands of adult parent and single human beings actually reacted... including the most tender of children* To this day, I advocate the care, and love the company and hugs of many, many kids.
