This is a scene on Monhegan Island, early evening when the horizontal rays of the setting sun brilliantly lit the houses on a hill. I had crashed at the Monhegan Inn after a strenuous day of plein air painting when I notice the strong light outside. I captured the image with my camera and later reproduced it in oil on linen and birch panel, 12 by 16. The original image was so strong that I had hardly anything to add.
