I recently attended one of the demonstrations Marilyn Comparetto held for the Bexely Arts Council.. I was inspired by the work she began and the work on show. Since then I have created 2 "Mixism" style paintings. The first is one that is very close to my heart. I play cricket, and it is a massively important part of my life. I play for a womens team, a boys team and a mens team and I coach young children and older girls around my local borough. The painting is of a cricketer, a bowler, in the end position. The colour used to paint the figure shows how I feel when I am playing cricket, especially bowling, as this is what I primarily do. The 'explosion' in the painting shows the explosive feelings I encounter when playing cricket. The 'wings' show that when I am bowling (well!) I feel as though I could do anything - even fly! This painting has allowed me to express how I feel when playing cricket like no words ever could. I had wanted to paint a bowler for a long time, but never felt I could express the way I felt adequately with only paint.
