Sleeping Beauty!

This dog has no idea how close she just came to being sold by her previous owner - and spending the rest of her life on a short piece of chain, or in a cage the size of a rabbit hutch...

but look now, you love her wonderfully, perhaps she knows more than you think she knows...I can see the love she feels for this gift and place of comfort you have given her, a release of sorrow and relenting to peace in her slender form upon this gorgeous rug.....Praise God for you and your lovely family!!! Thank you for looking in on me. I love to see people caring for the other inhabitants of this world. It restores my faith in humanity...sometimes I feel so sad when I see all the horror in the world. But your kindness is a healing balm to me also. Thank you for sharing this.

Artist Reply: The big test came today... Now she is legally mine, I felt inclined to try letting her off the lead and giving her a few moment of real freedom. It was late at night and the estate was quiet. she went bounding off, a spredicted but after 5 minutes when she still hadn't shown up, I was getting sick with worry. I eventually caught up with her sniffing around somewhere as if butter wouldn't mealt in her mouth. I crouched down low and called her gently - praying that she wouldn't misinterpret my worry for anger. she came came scampering back and gave me a big lick all over my face! Something she has never done before!!

The poor thing is sleeping away. Glad he is resting comfortably. Great photo.

Artist Reply: Just a few hours before this shot was taken, Shoubi's future was very much in the ballance. I've rather spoiled her over the last year since I rescued her from a small cage. But her owners had taken her back as they wanted to sell her. In the Philippines, that could only mean at best; a life on the end of a short piece of chain - or worse - being used as a fighting dog... I was able to afford the asking price (very luckily!) Shoubi looked so comfortable in her now permanent home - as if she had no idea how close her life had been to being shattered... I couldn't resist the shot!
