I thought of this frog in a pond picture, when my cousin came to talk to me about a young man she had met. Woefully, she and he had not had a relationship that she wished would have flourished. What she shared is that, the man had overcome a highly dysfunctional upbringing, and his family was considered, poor. He, through his efforts had become a man of means, very well admired, and was of strong faith. Although he spoke about love, and his desire to have someone love him, he did things that contradicted what he spoke about. As months wore on he became mean to her. He was short tempered at all and everything, and my cousin began to see him differently, and certainly not that "special someone" she hoped and prayed for. As painful as the reality of it was, my cousin thought of a reason to enable her to cope with the end of their relationship. She said. "Perhaps with all the blessings, and baubles, he had and could attain, it was all new to him, and what he understood, best, was what he was familiar with." "Maybe, she said, he was like the Frog Prince." Everything he had gained and accomplished was at risk, because he could not overcome, what he needed to, most. I asked her what that was? "Familiarity of the frog pond." She said. "He has to go back to what he is familiar with, and my "Frog Prince" won't ever be happy, but at least he will be living in the surroundings of what he knows most about." I thought that was a sad ending for both my cousin, and her young man.

a sad story, but at least she found out before she commited her life to him & had children, very nice pastel.

Artist Reply: It was a sad story, Jacqueline. But as you said, in so many words, she is really quite lucky! Thank so much for your comment!

Very nice work, Carliss! Do you like oil pastels better than pastels?? I have never used oil pastels...

Artist Reply: Hi, Ruth! Oil pastels are okay, but, actually, this picture was done with watercolor pencils, oil pastels, and just plane color pencils. Certain tools were good for certain things. I really only love the regular old pencil.

Artist Reply: Susan, I want you to know, that I appreciate your reading the text. I wanted to make some sort of statement, yet convey her calm resolution and attempt to understand. No anger just, another learning experience.
