A stunning painting of probably one of the most misunderstood of all wild mammals. Unlike tales of terror, there has never been any confirmed attack and killing of a human by a healthy wolf. In spite of the negative press, wolves are almost the exact opposite of how they are portrayed. They are friendly, social and highly intelligent. We have so much to learn from this wise species that thankfully do not emulate human values since their sense of family is strong and loyal carefully living by defined rules and rituals. I once met a woman in Santa Fe, New Mexico who raised wolves and found them to be her most beloved companions. They are the epitome of the wild spirit, and when tamed are loving and devoted companions, the true spirit of this loyal and amazing species. Their positive characteristics are so numerous that it is no wonder that Native Americans and others practically deify them. I think the true test of America’s sincerity about protecting the environment will revolve around whether or not the wolf remains protected and is allowed to be reintroduced into areas of the country where it has been previously destroyed. Wolves teach us about the value of forming deep emotional attachments by trusting our instincts; Their actions reflect true harmony and the knowledge to discipline with love showing us the true spirit of freedom. Your painting is a testament to this beautiful and spiritual animal that sets the bar high for humans to follow their lead to a true understanding of the most important values that humans must learn. It is so tragic that wolves are fighting for survival due to the ignorance, and cruelty of our species that has destroyed several kinds of wolves that have been hunted to extinction. Living around the artic circle has enabled the survival of the magnificent Artic Wolf. I find the killing of these special beings so painful and have adopted some as gifts for friends so they can live peacefully in protective shelters so they are safe from the brutality of those who wish to destroy them. I imagine an artic wolf when viewing your dramatic painting that reflects the soul of this endangered species in those piercing blue eyes. I love the vibrant contrast of colors and the background of the sun shining on white snow that reflects the purity and nobility of this sacred creature.

Artist Reply: My dear dear friend. You have spoken my words as if I was saying them. What I embrace about the wolves besides the beautiful words you have written, is that they are monogamous and that they mourn. Two things that show true feelings and trust and spiritual hearts. They are a magnificent animal and yes, are misunderstood. But we are their saviors and we should do all we can to educate the masses of asses. My sincere thanks for all of you, especially that you were born and your kind and deep friendship with me. It is a gift to me. I treasure it beyond words. Michael
