Jelyn Nakaupo sa Duyan

Jelyn sitting on her "duyan" (or hamok) - at home on the farm in Mindanao. Rembrandt and Schmincke pastels on a light creamy coloured Canson Mi Teintes pastel paper. 12" X 16" - Completed January 01, 2007 - My first 2007 painting! Another attempt at a pastel portrait... I'm still working on these things!!!

Artist Reply: Thanks for the encouragement. I didn't really do Jelyn justice in this one, although I did manage to catch something of her facial expression - which is always heartening! I'd like to have another go at this one some time, though - on a full size sheet of rough watercolor paper. I seem to be able to express myself more freely when I have a lot of paper to cover!
