This is a perfect portrayal of an archetypal theme. In Christian art the Madonna is always portrayed cradling the infant Christ. Here the Christ has matured into the role her mother nurtured her to adopt. It seems natural that the uplifted Christ would be the daughter of the suffering Madonna. The innocence in her eyes seems to convey complete faith in the unseen Father she was taught by her mother to trust. It feels like a reunion she has been looking forward to her entire life. In reality women bear lot more suffering than men. This picture portrays the sanctity of the mundane. It reveals the transition that a woman makes as she sacrifices her life in order to nurture; at the cusp of womanhood she becomes the sacrifice. It is very poignant.

Oh the historical inaccuracy here!!! Don't you know Jesus wasn't blond? :-)
Your photo is so strong. I am curious though about your thought process. What does this picture say to you? It is such a beautiful image, I would love to know more.
