The British House of Parliament in London is perhaps the cradle of western democracy and the Mother of All Parliaments. It sits along side Westminster Abbey and the famous clock tower of Big Ben. It also has the historic River Thames flowing past it and what if Global Warming continued on its present disastrous path and the seas rose? This scenario depicted here might a scene we would be commonplace. WHEN this takes place for indeed it will 80% of the rest of this great British capital would be underwater too. However, there are two bills in the US Congress right now that would remedy our leadership deficit on this issue and protect future generations from the disastrous effects of global warming. Sen. Jeffords has introduced the Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act in the Senate, and Rep. Henry Waxman has introduced the Safe Climate Act in the House of Representatives. Both bills would gradually reduce greenhouse-gas emissions to levels needed to stabilize the climate and avoid catastrophic change - 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. They would also advance cleaner technologies that would reduce U.S. dependence on oil, improve air quality, and protect our pristine places from drilling. It is a start& but we need to do more . . . . much more.
