Hisham, very political.I am trying to work out if you feel the Christian faith is the source of your pain or you are reaching out holding on to the faith.Maybe i am wrong but i feel maybe you are of another religon that is not excepted within your country and culture?Very beautifull work!

Artist Reply: Hello Marieanna, I don't feel that Christian faith is the source of my pain, and you are kind if right when you write "I feel maybe you are of another religion that is not excepted within your country", because I am a Christian Palestinian from Israel. I was born and raised in Nazareth. I use the cross to illustrate pain and injustice, because that what happened to Jesus. because I was raised in a Christian environment I have no problem to use Christian symbolism. this work is not religious or political, but what made me feel sad then (1997) is a kind of racialism, because I am Christian Palestinian in Israel, so I felt crucified like Jesus, in a very similar situation and the same location. but this are work is not about Christianity, religion or Politics, it is about pain, injustice and death.

The freedom from death is evident by the Cross the bondage has been broken already only because Christ holds the key However by your title "Drown" it seems that this individual Did Not accept Christ and Embrace the Cross because the lock is not Opened and of course now it is far too late. How awesomely Spirit and thought Provoking is this Powerfully wonderful Creation !!

Pamela Benjamin 20 Sep 2004

This is so symbolic - so much going on in this picture; The Christ coming up from the pits after defeating death, He's broken the chains of hopelessness -I like the transparency of the cross and the light&shadowing technique and sunrise glow that makes for a hauntingly spiritual piece. The floating key also acts a powerful statement
