Here is another drawing of Maud Allan. This time, she tries to smile. It's hard for her, as I have written about her sadness in the previous drawing. But, it is the best she can do.

Elegant and awesome work Carliss

Artist Reply: Thea, thank you for the elegant in your comment! It is the look, along with her sad eyes, that I wanted to render. It seems she was caught between being an aspiring pianist, destined for elegant life, and despair she had no control over.

So beautiful Carliss. Wonderful portrait. You seem to have captured her saddness in her eyes!

Artist Reply: Thank you so mych Lynnda! In drawing her, for me, it is a must, because it defines her life.

Oh my, Carliss, she is so lovely with the big beautiful hat! Great work!

Artist Reply: Thank you my dear artistic friend!

Very beautiful! She looks as though she was sad...I love this one! ^_^

Artist Reply: Hello Francis! Yes she is sad. Her life was not as pleasant as her clothing or genteel looks might convey. Her mother very strange, and father, most probably bi-polar, her brother accused, convicted, and executed for a murder that I don't believe he committed, ruled her tragic long life.

Nelly van Nieuwenhuijzen 28 Aug 2006

beautiful softness and great portrait again. Love the dark accents for the eyes and the hair!

Artist Reply: Dear, Nelly! I appreciate your comment, on her. Her eyes were somewhat challenging, although I can't figure out why. Thank you so much for letting me know what you liked about the drawing!
