approx. 11"x13" water soluble oil on gessoed bristol. This is a portrait of my dear father. The photograph reflected his charisma, and joyful spirit and I just had to paint it. It was actually my breakthrough painting. It's on paper because I have desperately been trying to loosen up my style, and I thought that if is was on paper I wouldn't care enough about it to be tight. Now I wish it was on canvas because it looks just like him, and I managed to loosen up! The photograph on this one didn't translate very well, though. There is a lot of glare when actually the background is more of the rich brown which shows on the right.

I love your lighting on your dad, you have pick the right image to paint. Really like how you do the hair with fine detail. Great work!
