Josephine Baker was barely more than a child when she left the life of poverty she lived in St. Louis, MO. Off she went to Paris,France, and became the sultry dancing seductress, that was to be her vehicle to fame and fortune, then to near poverty in her declining years. She and her husband adopted many, many children of all nationalities. When all funds were spent, her husband left herafter spending his family fortune in order to help support Josephine's unceasing desire to adopt more children.

I love this rendition of Ms. Josephine! I knew it was her right away! This is a very exciting and enchanting piece. I love the flow and curves of her shape as well as your pencil work! So glad to see you did a piece of Josephine - she is a hero of mine, I adore and admire her. Especailly with her adopting all her children, her "rainbow tribe", to try to give them a better upbringing than she had. She's a beautiful woman, and this is a beautiful tribute to her! Lovely work Carliss :)

Artist Reply: Hello Jane!! I am really exited, now. I wondered if anyone would really know who she was, but no one forgets the greatest artisans of our time, I think.I am so pleased that you knew her right away. Thank you for coming here, and commenting, and come back anytime! Your words are welcome.
