Toreador is a black Arabian stallion. This was drawn as my half of an art trade between myself and Jhatonna Turner.
Initially I wanted to do another experiment with pastels, but decided to try another medium that I haven't had much practise with recently: markers. This is prisma and tria markers on some outstanding marker paper made by Borden and Riley (#234 Paris Bleedproof paper for pens). Of course, normally it is bleed-proof, but I abused it rather thoroughly working to "lift" one area on the ground and managed to get it to bleed. Apart from that the paper is amazing and makes marker work much easier. However, it is hyper-bright and you can't use gouache, acrylics, or a white gel-pen to remove mistakes without being able to see exactly where it was.
I'm very happy with how this turned out. I probably should have pushed the dark a bit more, but I was hesitant to kill some of the detail.

Oh wow Cori! This is beautiful!!! Great job! I'm slow when it comes to deciding a new disign. I'm gonna try to use some other medium besides pencil on yours so I'm trying to study and do research with it since I haven't done anything with it that much so it might be awhile but I am workin on it. This is fantastic I'm freaking out right now! Beautiful job Cori, well done and thank you so much! I'll try my best on yours. ^__^ I hope you had fun doing this. May God bless you...Heather Gladden 28 Jul 2006
I'm terribly fond of the movement in this piece, especially the hoof closest to the viewer digging into the dirt, and the way the mane and tail appear to be flowing through the air. I know exactly what paper you are talking about, I used to use it as well, and I think I still have some. Too bad markers are so expensive, and seem to dry out so quickly..Joanne Harvey 20 Jul 2006
