Masked Mauraders

Raccoons out in a field on their way home. They live under that slab of rock that the mother is standing on. One of the babies has already gone into the hole to the side of the rock, the other takes another quick look around before retreating in to the safety of the inner sanctions of the burrow. I was driving down a country lane among the Kentucky thorobred horse farms when I spotted what I thought at first were foxes but turned out to be these masked Marauders of the countryside.

Love this! We had 8 of them hidding under our mountain cabin while a huge fire raced up the mountain toward us. I fed them for 4 days and then they found a new home. I would lie on my stomach at the sliding glass door and they would come to the glass and investigate me. They do have HUGE teeth.

This is a beautiful photo of the raccoons. I once had two raccoons whose names were Wally and Beaver. Beaver purred like a cat.
