This is a hummingbird that I painted with trupet vines and flowers. I used my Wacom Tablet and stylus pen and Painter IX.5 software to digitally paint, not a manipulated photo. I have to paint every part of this image, and start with a blank canvas on the screen. I did not cut or paste, or just blend a photo. I know at times the small thumbnails posted do not show all the brush strokes and it may appear more like a photo. I also use blending tools to blend out brush strokes at times to make it more realistic. I often blend together several mediums that I could not with the real mediums. The computer lets me mix mediums such airbrush, pastels, chalks, & watercolor, which were all used in this painting.

Artist Reply: LOL! Thanks Chas! I'm on the way home from vacation with lots of new photos and ideas I got while traveling across the US. I've lots of new projects to work on, and learned some new skills as well. Never enough flowers to see, or time to work with them.

Artist Reply: Thanks Cathie! It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it. I have played so much with the programs and experiment alot. It has helped me find brush sizes and shapes, blending tools, and mediums that I work well with. Experimenting is fun, but takes time for me to get the hang of new mediums. Some I just leave alone and dislike.

Artist Reply: Thanks Jo! I am trying different mediums and brush tools to paint hummingbirds. I like this one that I did and this style. Have others in my gallery and will add more. Eventually hope to pick an appealing style to illustrat a children's book I've written on hummingbirds. Hope to start the illusrtations this fall to work on. I'll be out taking photos on my vacation thinext month of gardens for the floral parts of the book. Hummers are the easy part.
