As the title suggests, this painting was inspired by the headland at Spurn Point, East Yorkshire. However, this view is obviously not of Spurn Point as the headland represented here is a reverse view-point to the actual view. I used lots of acrylic washes to build up the colours of the sea and the sky, with metallic pinks showing through at various points of the sky to suggest a lovely sunset evening. Texture paste was applied to the whole area of land in order to increase the rough feel of the area depicted. I then also applied some sand to the nearest bit of headland in the bottom corner. An imaginary scene but one inspired by a local view for me, this piece has taken many months to complete, as each time I added something to it, I didn't feel completely happy with it. Only now the weather has turned towards spring have I felt my painting has reflected the true feel of the scene.
