Little Chicago

My 3 daughters and I lived here for a year and half, and it wasn't at all pretty. The complex has 40 units and at the time over 70% was use for public subsidizing. The real problem with this complex was the location, it was segregated from the mass community. Each city is obligated to offer some sort of public housing, so they design these "poverty camps" and fit them in like sardines... "good luck!! The real problem is when these families are put in this enviroment you start to see chaos before your eyes. Children raising children, there was stabbings and incest. Children plaing in the pot holes as if they were the pools, a small girl eating her sandwich right off the road, a three year old playing with syringe as if it's a toy. There were beatings and parents partying all night. There was a child screaming in terror each night as the uncle was enjoying his lust. One sick situation after another. I prayed and finally my daughters were able to leave. But so many are left there to live in that vicious cirle. May God bless each of them and prevail from poverty. I needed to make the piece back in 1995. It's 12 feet long, 2 feet in depth and 4 feet high. The piece has over 75 charaters. The piece is done in sections so it's easier to travel. Since I made the piece, it has traveled through out the Twin Cities, including many colleges, churches and the Ramsey Action Program who help aide the poor under hard times. The piece has stirred up mix feelings, and so it shall. The real deal is what's the answer to this bleak subgect thats not well addressed in United States. The only thing I can think of is for the community to reach out better including the churches, the local business, the retirees, voleenteer groups instead of the goverment. But they must be cohesive, communicate and want to help. Poverty and living in these terrible enviroments is a hell've blow to our American citizen, there really isn't any excuse!!! I've followed "little Chicago" through the years, and many eyes have seen the piece. The piece last viewing was on 9-11-01. I canceled the show for the obvious reason. A few weeks ago some one made an offer for little chicago, a substatial offer , and I was thrilled. I unpacked the piece and was overwelm by it's emotional nature. It turned out the offer was a hoax, and it was a spiteful thing for a person to do this. But it motivated me to show the piece to all of you. I will send you 2 different perspectives. "Little Chicago" is ready to leave me and to look for a new home. I'm going to move and the piece is too large to where I'll be living. I'll donate the piece to who ever may be interested. If the party is willing to take it from overseas, you'll have to pay for the shipping expenes. I'll be more than happy to set the piece up on your behalf. I know the piece does have a price tag, but I'm not interested in that. What I'd be interested in is that the piece will get a wordly exposure because of the problem our society has. So if a social group, a museum, or gallery is interested, give a call or email. I'm sure we can work something out. Thanks, richard
