After 3 unsuccessful treks to the glacier in the last 4 months, we finally got to see it again last week. Our past 3 attempts were turned back due to a landslide, my knee, and her back. Hiking in deep snow can be difficult and very tiring if you don't have snowshoes to keep you on top. On this trip the 3 1/2 mi. trail is finally free of snow, except for a couple of snow banks in the last 1/2 mi. When we arrived we were shocked at the site... The glacier itself was shaped so differently than the last time we saw it in the early fall. The cave on the left has collapsed and the right side has been eroded away by water and rockslides. This has pulled the sides of the ice away from the surrounding mts. It has also receded quite a bit...as all glaciers in the world are receding. The second photo shows the remaining cave and the source of the Carbon River...
