Doolough comes from the Irish meaning dark or black lake but, depending on the weather, the water can be any shade from inky black to molten silver to bold bright blue.
wow! Beautiful painting, Jackie - the light on the water is really amazing. Love all your skies, rolling hills fields and ports, but this is a favourite ... :-) love and light.... Lizzy
Artist Reply: Oh thankyou Lizzy........this is one of my favourite places.....when the morning light shines down the valley and across the lough its just beautiful :o))
mmhhh....yes, thats the power of ireland! (is this gap dunloe??)
Artist Reply: Thanks for your lovely comments on all the paintings, Madeline. This one is actually the Doolough Pass which leads you from Mayo to Connemara. If you're interested in history try "googling" Doolough Tragedy and you'll see why this place , beautiful though it is, has an atmosphere tinged with incredible sadness.
