Native Elder

I was moved by an old historic photograph of a Native American elder -of the Yurok tribe.I wondered what the experiences of his life had been and what his eyes had seen through the passage of his time...This cross hatch pen & ink interpretation is my respectful tribute to this elder and to a too-often forgotten people of this beautiful land.

Kathryn, this is a wonderful testiment to the spirit of a tribe of people with so much character that is so beautifully detailed in your portrait. His wrinkled and time worn face add the the beauty of your respect for the elders that native americans have as an important value. I wish other countries would cherish the elderly who often are wise and can offer youth such sage counsel. It is our loss when we treat the aged in disrespect and discard them as part of our family that is too often the case in the United States, the country they originally inhabited.
