This is one of my favorite paintings. The medicine wheel for health, the swan, a symbol of beauty & the flowing water represents the passage of time...in short, it means growing old gracefully.
A wonderful piece with a Native American flavor! The symbolism though is more far reaching. The swan is the symbol of whitening (albedo) in the alchemical Great Work -- the lunar tincture -- the white elixir. If it rises, "then life has vanquished death," That is what I see in her expression -- a weary task achieved perhaps? Just lovely and filled with quality & emotion! I really enjoyed discovering this work! Thank you!
