Maureen, I thought I'd rerpot back on how I'm making out with this new approach. I sent the message to six people, and only one has responded. (Of course, some may not be checking LinkedIn very often, in which case there's not a lot of value being connected anyway, is there?)I've now developed a new message for people I don't know but belong to some of the same LinkedIn groups as me: Thanks for your interest in connecting with me here. I am attempting to keep my LinkedIn connections streamlined by restricting it to people I have already met or had some one-on-one interaction with. I look forward to getting to know you through some of the groups we both belong to, and perhaps then I will be more open to accepting your invitation. It will be interesting to see how this works!
