Just Imagine!

I had painted this picture 17 years ago, this was a hugh Flamingo Sanctuary locked in a marshland at the end of the Dubai Creek, these birds formed a hugh carpet covering this marshland, migrated from the cold Siberia. I visited this place last month, plenty of tall skyscarpers and roads curved into this land with only a handful of birds left. Signages and parks were put up for birdwatchers to observe this birds, but I can only imagine!

Wonderful mood and effects. Almost pointalism, but with a more mythstical effect. I love the colour pallette too.

Artist Reply: Thank you Sally for your comments and time, this santuary will be gone in another 2 years time if these people don't preserve and conserve the enviroment. there were too many buildings and highways already built in this mashland, maybe too late.

The treatment of your idea is remarkable. Beautiful composition, the alignment of the birds is a nice touch.

So sad that the birds are going away..Just two year ago across from my mother a great oak tree was cut down and homes when up.. it was so sad because it was a place where hundredth of bird stop on their jounrey north and south. The flight pattern was use to stop the building but unfortunely mankind won and not the bird. So this piece is a great statement for wildlife.. Great top piece..

Hello Francis! How's things? Your beautiful painting only serves to remind us of how the pressure to 'Progress' is removing some of nature's miracles from our very eyes! The sultan of Oman is a strict ecologist but Dubai has it's mind on business and money making. Sad but true!

Artist Reply: It's true, I had been to Oman last month...really fascinating scenery with mountain ridges and valleys untouch! some of these dated back 65 millions years. Thanks Rusty.

Andree Lerat 31 Jan 2006

Your choice of including a single skyscraper speaks volume about the invasion, making more real than the fading image of the flamingos. Sad story. Beautiful imaginative art.

Artist Reply: The lone skyscraper was one of the tallest building 30 years ago, I think proper planning and conservation will be able to preserve these natural habitat..It's all in the mind set. Thanks Andree.
