Yesterday I was at the snowy grounds (we had snowfall overnight) of the University of Manitoba. It was a grey overcast day, but while there I was entertained by this beautiful Black-billed Magpie. He was very busy & vocal, flying and hopping around the campus grounds gathering food and trinkets. They are rather large birds approximately 17-21 inches in length, and are from the Crow & Jay family. Hope you enjoy these photos. Taken with HP 945 digital camera then cropped and framed in PhotoFiltre. Have a wonderful Friday....

I wonder if you were to talk to a bird,do you think it would tell you it's real name? You have to wonder...I mean, the titmouse must really hate that name..and the wood pecker! We've been laughing at those poor souls for many moons. They probably laugh at us,not understanding them..I can see it..all the bird voices, and chirps may just be saying,"No,My name is Bill":)Great catch,Les!I've never seen one this real, other than an encyclopedia:)Nancy Costley 13 Jan 2006
