Blue Boat (Leigh-On -Sea, Essex)

Low tide in the Thames estuary at Leigh-on-Sea had left these boats stranded in the muddy estuary bed. In this painting I wanted to get the right balance of tone to capture the impression of the autumn sun low in the sky, shining against the boats. This was painted in acrylics on stretched canvas. The painting is not framed. The sides of the canvas have been painted, so it does not necessarily need framing. This work has been sold. If you would like to commission a similar piece, please get in touch. Please note: Depending on the setting of your monitor, the colours may appear slightly different from those of the original painting. Also you must appreciate that it is impossible to convey all the subtleties of texture, tone and hue of the original work in a digital photograph.

Anyone who can coax acrylic to give subtle effects like this deserves a medal; and I have to assume the painter has been active for some years. It has a "Whistler" feel, whether intentional or not. The portrayal of atmosphere is off the rating scale.
