The President Speedster

Studebaker wanted a sports model that could compete with the Ford Thunderbird and Chevrolet Corvette but their budget was too tight to allow for a truly new design. What they could afford was to add a chromed front end to the Robert Bourke designed "Loewy coupe". Powered by the "Passmaster" 185 hp, 259 cid, V-8 engine, the President Speedster listed for $3253, a price 10% higher than the smaller but sportier new T-Bird convertible. The addition of the "catfish" front end may have been a questionable "improvement" but the 2215 Speedsters produced were still beautiful cars.
