Absolutley marvelous and true-to-life painting. The narrative is very sad, and breaks by heart.

This is a beautiful image. I love the clouds, the variation of the horses' coats, the gesture of that buckskin one on the right reaching over. The only question I have is why are all the horses in water to their fetlocks, but the sentinel is up to his knees? Is he standing in deeper water? Is that symbolic of his responsibility, that it sinks him down?

Awesome work John. Great mix of media. From all the mix of colors of the horses, to the reflections in the water. Beautiful!
