One Small Step...

This piece depicts the magnificent 1969 Moon Landing. It is part of a series of Historic Events I'm painting. Interestingly, I was only a baby when this event occurred, but it has always captured my imagination. I often wondered how those astronauts felt stepping foot on 'another world'. Truly a unique and proud moment in American and human history.

All your work is very good. Most of it is fantasy. Is this?

Artist Reply: Thank you kindly. This piece is reality-based on the 1969 moon landing...

When one thinks of overcoming the force of gravity and atmosphere and the void of space, this truly is a mission our ancestors could not have fully contemplated.

Artist Reply: Thanks! I am a history buff, and found great inspiration in this truly significant, human achievement.

Impressive work! Beautiful creamy colors!

Artist Reply: Much appreciation! The original reference was very small (so I could purposely work out the details myself...) and very pale. I figured "Why not add some nice, light ochre saturation to it?"

Wow, Richard! It's hard to believe it's not real! Surface looks so great and I like very much the colors, in particular, effect of shining.

Artist Reply: Thanks very much! I 'add libbed' some of the details (based on the lighting) to make the piece more dramatic. I even added the earth for distance, but it may be completely in the wrong position from an astronomical P.O.V. But hey, it's art, right? It's the 'spirit' that counts...!
