© Ann Morash 2005. Approx. 9" x 9", Artist marker & ink on Bristol. "Evening Poppies in Octet" is uniquely tranquil among my current pieces, in its wistfulness of expression, & in the softness of the color palette. The cool blues of this piece give the feeling of the early evening summer sky, before it is tinged with the oranges and reds of the setting sun. The orange-red poppies are rendered in a very decorative, ornamental filigree style, inspired by European Renaissance design. I frequently use poppies in my work: the poppy is the beloved flower of Ukraine, my ancestral home. There is a detailed Celtic knot enhancing the centre of the design, completing the piece.
