Lightship Chesapeake

Built in 1930, for the U.S. Lighthouse Service by the Charleston Drydock and Machine Company, Charleston, South Carolina, Lightship LV-116 is 133 feet long with a 30 foot beam, a draft of 13 feet and displacement of 633 tons. She has a 1000 watt lamp and was held in place by huge 7500 pound mushroom anchors. The "Chesapeake" served as a floating lighthouse for forty years, first at Fenwick Island Delaware and later at the entrance to Chesapeake Bay. During WWII she was fitted with 20 mm guns and did harbor patrol. Designated a National Historic Landmark the "Chesapeake" is now part of Baltimore's Maritime Museum.
