Mermaid

Original Size: approx. 11"x17" This is a variation on the traditional, classic mermaid. Her tail is more mammal-like (dolphin), as opposed to fish-like to make it appear more 'realistic' from a physical standpoint. Copyright (c)Richard Santos 2005.

This is amazing. Your skill is truly incredible. The pose is so serene...amazing. The most beautiful yet simple piece!

Artist Reply: Many, many thanks, Jorge! I appreciate your kind words! I wanted the focus to stay on the mermaid, hence the lack of a background. I am currently doing another mermaid piece with this model in a different pose & color, which I'll post later...

this is a stunning drawing. I am glad I found your art, it really is inspiring. Wonderful warm colors. Her eyes seem to be very mythical. And so is the rest of the drawing, the the colors hint a familiarity, the whole creature is a myth. Beautiful contrast.

Artist Reply: Many, many thank yous! I am very please you enjoy my art so much and find inspiration in it. In this piece (and many of my works...), I tried to keep a strong semblance to reality while evoking the mythical. That way, it appears more believeable, as if the mermaid actually exists, and not just made up. I think it captures the essence better.
