We woke up at 4 am on a late November morning. Snow had fallen all afternoon and evening the day before. In a metre of powder, my group of five set out with only our head lamps to lead us through the fog and darkness, up to a ridge beside a mountain peak. The wind blew and the clouds stirred. It was about -5 degrees Centigrade, not too bad. The sun came up somewhere beyond the mountains, above the fog. At last the clouds lifted. The mountains came out and so did our cameras. That was one of the greatest mountain photo moments I have ever had in the Japanese Alps. Minolta 801si alpha, 24mm lens, Fujichrome Velvia, no filter, no colour manipulation. Copyright Peter Skov.
