Restrictions

MEDIUM/GROUND: Assemblage/Soft Sculpture - Multi-media -- raw cotton fabric, vintage styrofoam wig form, stainless steel rod, king sized bed pillow (cotton cloth, acrylic stuffing), heavy gauge crab fishing line, natural jute cord, conte` crayons, acrylic paint and a misting of acrylic clear coat. Large weave of fabric and jute string create a piece that's all about the textures (the texture of life). Though the sculpture has been sprayed with dry media fixative as well as acrylic clear coat, the fabric remains supple. Overall the work is intended to seem as a roughed relic dug out of the ground from days gone past.

SIZE: 16" wide, 16" tall, 12" deep.

DESCRIPTION: Hailed as "ground breaking modern sculpture", this emotionally packed piece is inspired by Peruvian mummies. Intended to reflect the restrictions within this life, how they can effect us emotionally, and perhaps serve as a reminder not to carry your restrictions with you into the after life. Each of us is bound by something -- let loose those restrictions.
Artist Note: No stitches or sewing needle pierced the fabric in this work. It is made from one continous piece of fabric folded in a particular way, akin to oragami methods. A slight bit of adhesive was used in areas I wanted to stay in placement.

Part of the "When Freedom Comes Series", 2003 to present, which is a series of works based upon the contemplation of the phrase, "When freedom comes, how shall it find you?". When your spirit/soul is ready to move on, what kind of condition will you be in at the time? How has your life been lived thus far? If political and/or economic situations are relieved and we gain true freedom, how will we use it -- with nobility and charity or greed and fear? When freedom comes, how shall it find YOU?

NOW AVAILABLE: "Minor Restrictions 1, a miniature version of the above sculpture with it's own unique qualities.

Deeply emotionally provoking and profound work on a variety of levels. Not just a depiction of the binding restriction of the body but of the soul. Thought provoking and a piece that will stay in my subconscious. I felt this work inside and with tears. It's a bravo.

Hi Tree, I just came across this while browsing around here. This piece is AMAZING and I immediately felt a connection to the powerful message because.....the restrictions we encounter in this life are captured in a breathtaking way with this sculpture. Sharon K. Shubert

This is the best and most meaningful piece I have seen in a long time! Congrats on it's lively perception. If you have not made others you should, for they are more than art... they are life. Excellent work Tree Pruitt! Nice to meet you here in the cyber world of pixels and electric wires! Sincerely CB
