King of the Mountain

I thought that I had this one listed but I can't find it - so here it is again. I saw the boy on the rock, which reminded me of things we did as children. I made up the scene and the second boy. Oil on canvas

I like the pensive feel of the made-up boy and that the figure is well drawn in the context of the perspective.

Artist Reply: Thank you for your nice comment. Of all the paintings that I have ever done, this might be my favorite!

This reminds me of when I was a kid! I looked just like the boy on the rock! So amazing!!!

Artist Reply: I think every kid did this. I did, too. Maybe i looked like that kid, too, but my hair was longer! LOL

Betty, you have a wonderful eye for light and a talent for capturing it in your paintings. I love the rim lighting on the rock and in the boy's hair. The blue light in the water shows you have acute observation skills. I also like the casual pose of the child below the rock, like he/she is pretending not to care much about not being King of the Mountain. I think I like this painting best so far.

Wonderful work Betty! I love the sun shining off the boy on the rock, and then the depth of the shadows on the 2nd boy. Your ability to do water with accurate reflections is amazing. You can almost feel the textures of the sand and wetness of the water. Wonderful. Keep it up! :)

Artist Reply: Thank you, Christina. Since I have this love affair with water, I have made it a point to read, observe, and learn about reflections and shadows - and the differences between them!

Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful control over the color and contrasts. John

Artist Reply: Thanks, John. Since I used so few colors, it wasn't too hard to control them. Pretty sneaky, eh?
