Two for the Show

I am always touched by the 4H youngsters who spend much time raising their animals and then have to face the day of the livestock sale! Here is a young lady awaiting her turn. Oil on canvas.

Artist Reply: Thanks for your comment, Pat. No, you would not like my photographs! I'm noted for chopping off heads or tilting the horizon, etc.!

This is my favorite, Betty. Purity and mystery are present. The technic and the colour are wonderful. I just love it.

Betty, your painting are wonderful. I hear that oil painting is hard, but you have it mastered. 10+++

Artist Reply: Thank you, Maam! Personally, I find using a nice squishy, versatile brush easier to use than a hard pointed tool - such as a pencil!

Absolutely super piece! Tells a great story.

Artist Reply: Thank you, Katherine. Yep! That's why I had to paint it - the story.

Julie Mayser 24 May 2005

Super job,Betty! You have gotten the anatomy perfect on the sheep ( I used to raise them) and the pinky color of the newly shorn. The girls emotional attitude can be read in her stance, and you captured that correctly too! Wonderful values with all that white to categorize!

Artist Reply: Oh thank you, Julie! About the sheep? You couldn't have pleased me more!!

Jerie kunitsky 23 May 2005

This is just wonderful. I love what you have done with the light.

Artist Reply: Thank you, Jerie. The light was pretty much there except that the "interior" was much brighter. (You can see that the lights were on - plus daylight) I knocked it way down so that it would not conflict with the subject.
